We have a laptop with Vista as the OS, When we try to start the computer it
runs the start up repair. It doesn't find the error and says it can't fix it.
I've tried safe mode, booting it from CD and either allows Vista to boot.
Any idea how to fix this error without wiping the entire computer out?

If you can get it to boot from the disk to a command prompt, run:

<Drive>:\boot\Bootsect.exe /NT60 All

Where <drive> is the letter assigned to the optical drive.

Try letting the startup repair make use of the restore points. It usually
finds one that it can use after a few reboots.
If startup repair does not ask for use of the restore points, you can try
the System Recovery function key during initial boot, and when I asks if you
want to reinstall windows or recover , select the options to recover &
restore using a restore point previously created. Try the newer points first,
as when you restore, every point after that is removed. if it still doesn't
boot, try it until successful or out of restore points.

My apologies I can't recall the exact function key to use. (F11, I think???) -
also, try using F8 and select safe mode boot option as it may also help get
windows going in your situation.

I hope this helps you!
