Curt,

It's the HP software causing the issue or vice versa. Suggest
uninstalling the UNneeded HP Publish to Web service.

Specifically, the two files involved are hpgs2wnd.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/star....exe-2019.html
and hpgs2wnf.exe
http://www.liutilities.com/products/...rary/hpgs2wnf/

You can disable this from running on Startup by going to Start, Run,
and then type in

msconfig

Click OK. Click the Startup tab. Disable this from running by unchecking
the box next to it, click Apply, then Close. Restart the system and then
apply the update. Restart the system once more.
If you want to reenable Share to Web, then go back into msconfig and
recheck the boxes. Restart the system to affect the change.

Why didn't you read what I said, I have NO HP software installed. If I did,
why should I delete it when KB908531 is the obvious problem? Again when will
there be a correct KB908531???

Greetings, while it wont help much I do like to let you know that in my case
the problem only occured at my german system, OEM XP HOME-OEM Ggerman XP
Office.
My laptop with US OEM but German office works fine. At any rate lots of
emails to MS may get them on the ball in addition to the error messages. By
now the conficence once held that MS updates work is lost. While painfull i
shall proceed now by installing updates one at the time.
