Greetings Dave,
Actually you can actually turn a lot of the new sorting behavior off, as well as remove the
"non-instant messaging contacts" which are the old contacts you're seeing. This can be done
in the Contacts menu (press Alt-C in the main window if the menu is hidden), then Sort/View
and Filter options there.
