Still can't get update to run

I posted before about this and I don't seem to be able to find any solutions.
Dial a fix didn't work for me and I had to restore my laptop...
The status bar doesn't move when I choose to run either the express or
custom searching for available updates.
Background inelligent updater is started, windows updater is started. I
don't know what else to do...
Any ideas other than reformating my computer?
