Hi All
Error 0x80072EFD, had this error since I tried to update windows in August.
I have followed the recommended solutions on Microsofts website and Knowledge
base and in this forum but need a little help. When I enter proxycfg from the
cmd prompt as has been suggested I get the following lines;
Flags=PROXY_TYPE_DIRECT (what ever that means)
Proxy Server= -not set-
Bypass List = -not set-
What do I do next?
My only firewall that I'm aware of is the one that comes with XP. I have
temporarily disabled this.
I have Norton System Works 2004 but not NIS. I have added the trusted sites
etc. I'm tempted to try GK alternative solution but am worried that I may
lose
internet access. The help facility of my internet provider is worse than
useless.
Any help appreciated
Mal Dinsdale

Hi

GK alternative solution was 2 parts:

1)
Running the command proxycfg -d (to set no proxy a.k.a. direct
access), but do not use -d if you actually have a proxy.

As you have PROXY_TYPE_DIRECT already in your output from proxycfg,
there are no need to run proxycfg -d for you. If you actually have
a proxy, use proxycfg to set it. proxycfg -? in a command prompt
for more help in that case.

2)
Renaming or just deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder.

You can use the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the SoftwareDistribution
folder is that you lose your WU v5 History listing (not critical).

(later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution
folder)

This step 2 is safe to do, it will not affect your general internet
access at all.
