It's almost 18 of March and there is still no sign of Vista SP1...
How it will be distributed?

For those who have to have it NOW, you will have to wait until 1PM PST,
March 18th which is 25 hours from now. Course, if you were prudent, you
would wait and see what problems others are having before installing it
but YMMV.

That's because it's not March 18 yet.

The same way they always have been. Windows Update.

Almost being 18 March is not the same as actually being 18 March.
That's like saying an Apple is almost the same as an Orange...

Sarcasm aside, Windows Vista SP1 will be made broadly available on 18
March 2008 via Windows Update and via the Microsoft Download Center.

The difference being is that if you have made regular use of Windows
Update, then the SP1 update will be a small download, estimated to be
around 60MB or so.

The Microsoft Download Center download of SP1 will be around 450MB,
because it will include everything, including language packs. This is
the route that most system administrators will take, as it allows the to
download the SP1 once, and deploy it across multiple machines.

I'll likely be using the MDC download of SP1, so that I can keep it for
later re-use by writing it to disk. Or for installation onto computers
for those customer I encounter who do not have broadband internet, or no
internet at all.

BTW guys...now would be a great time for some unscrupulous cad to send out a
bulk e-mail stating the SP1 is now available for release from their site.
Be careful out there!

Really? How do you explain that I got XP's SP2 in the post from
Microsoft without going anywhere near Windows Update?

Of course I remember. I was correcting what you posted and later
snipped, above, where you wrote, and I quote "always". It would be nice
if a complete SP1 could be ordered like SP2 was with XP as so many
people went out and bought Vista with SP nada over the last year.
Slipstreaming, etc.
