i've tried these suggestions, and this is what happens:

i put the computer to sleep, i hear the disc slow down and stop (?)
but then it immediately starts back up and the computer comes out of
sleep...

this is a newer HP computer that came with vista home premium.

the thing is, i don't remember this happening before i installed my
high speed internet (from verizon)...

could this have something to do with it???

Could simply be defective, I would contact HP Support about it if its still
under warranty.

Since you did not state which suggestions you've tried,
I don't know what to suggest.

If you have made another post that received some
suggestions, then it would have been best to keep
this post in that thread.

Peripheral devices, such as router or network activity, can bring computers
out of hibernation or sleep mode.
