Using the latest WLM version in win7_ultimate, wlm 15.4.3538.0513.

Is it possible (as in former versions) to CANCEL news-messages? If i
remember correctly, there once was (or still is) a cancel option that will
send a special news-message to the news-servers with a cancelling command in
one of the header lines.

In WLM 2011 i did not find this function. Pressing the DEL key will only
make the selected message(s) non-visible, this also works with messages
written by someone else. :-)

Am i missing something?

greetings

Hi Roland,
I found that in WLM 2009 you can add a 'Cancel' button to the toolbar, which
will send the cancel message to the server. Right-click an empty spot on
the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar. Maybe it's also available with
WLM 2011?

Once you pass the WLM software hurdle (or whatever app you favor) the
issue becomes NSP dependent... your NSP may or may not permit cancels
.... and if it goes through your NSP ... it may or may not be accepted be
other NSPs.

Basically it is a crap shoot... all in all it's unlikely that you can
expunge your post past your newsreader with any reliability.

Fair point. It just interested me if they removed the feature or if i just
missed it.
From a technical point of view i always assumed that cancel is not reliable,
and i never went deeper in to the RFCs to see if the cacel feature is
properly defined.
If it is really so unreliable it is understandable that MS has remoded the
feature ...

Because there's no method of authenticating who the cancel request
came from, I know of no servers that honor it anymore.

Cancel button is on the 'Hom'e tab in WLM 2011.
Grayed-out for all but your messages.
Cancelling your message is only capable if your server provides the service. Afaik, unless you are on a private server and have the
ability to do so (e.g. moderator/staff access) few public servers, if any at all (at least none that I access), allow cancellation.
