Hi, I'm back if you all remember me! The same problem occurs: I try to
synchronize my Pocket PC with Outlook using Activesync (yes it is the latest
version) and I can't. It says this (I copied this from the KB):
"Synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access
necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and synchronize again.
If the problem persists and this desktop computer is running Microsoft
Outlook 2000, open Outlook 2000, click Help, and then click Detect and
Repair. Otherwise, contact your network administrator." Don't tell me to
make a new partnership or restart or something stupid like that. Oh, and
double-clicking Mpai32.exe did nothing. Please help! Thanx!

Which version of Windows are you using again?

Nice to talk to you again. I'm running Windows 98 SE. It's been a while,
hasn't it. How come you help people on this newsgroup but have your own
website that people have to pay to get your help? Well thanx soooo much
again!

Try uninstalling Office, then run the Office clean utility
(http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;q239938).
Note that this will remove all references to Office, so be sure to
back up any settings you have for your e-mail accounts, and it'd be
best to back up your Outlook.pst file as well.

I set up the "pay for help" site for those that want one-on-one
service and don't want to deal with the newsgroups, etc. I set it up
after getting e-mails from people asking for help. I've been providing
support to people in these newsgroups for over 4 years now, and have
no intention of stopping - I'm here because I enjoy the Windows Mobile
platform, I'm passionate about making it a success, and want to help
end-users have a great experience with the platform.

Ok, I don't know if you will believe this. I started following your advice,
and downloaded the cleaner. You said though to uninstall Office, so I backed
everything up and so. THEN, as I was going down the Add/Remove Programs
list, I found leftover the "Office 2000 CD-2." So I say, ok I should
uninstall this first because I shouldn't have it still on my computer. I
uninstall it and then think, "Hmmm....maybe I should try using Activesync one
more time to see if that changed anything." I sync up, and all of a sudden,
a small install window pops up saying "Configuring Office XP with Frontpage."
It completes that and then syncs up perfectly!!! I am still going to
monitor this situation, but the results seem promising. I began to think
though that I still had this problem before with Office 2000, so I have come
up with a theory, that if it tests positive, should be notified to Microsoft
as soon as possible. My theory is that installing Office 2000 WITH THE
SECOND CD (CD-2) will cause this error in synchronization of a Pocket PC
using Activesync with Office. I REALLY HOPE THIS IS THE SOLUTION, FOR I AM
TIRED OF THIS PROBLEM! It can also end this conversation once and for all.
I am not exactly sure how to send this to Microsoft without having to pay, so
if you have any thoughts on how to send this, you can tell me. Otherwise,
THANX FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT and I hope to finally say that this
post is just about wrapped up.

Your welcome. Strangely enough, even after doing that, it still didn't work.
So, two seconds before writing this message, I uninstalled Office sounds,
and I worked, so far. A while ago, I never had those sounds and it still was
a problem, but I hope it will now work. Please work, I'm sick of this.
Thanx for all those who have helped me.

Can you uninstall both CD1 and CD2, then use BOTH eraser programs (the
link to the one for CD2 is in the KB article for CD1), uninstall
ActiveSync, then reinstall CD1 only with the default install, install
the service packs from http://office.microsoft.com, then reinstall
ActiveSync.

Do you have Netscape (4.x, 6.x, 7.x), Mozilla (any version), or
Thunderbird installed on your computer?
