stimon error in windows me

I continue to have an error message STIMON caused an invalid page fault in
modual WIASERVC.DLL at 0187:74375b26. etc.. stack dump when first going
online or when using a scanner. the computer stops for a while then continues
without any apartnt problems, but the time the computer takes to clear is
becomming annoying. How do I fix this?
