A relative recently had their laptop stolen, and who ever stole it booted up
the computer, and msn messenger automatically signed on. What I am wondering
is if it is possible to find out the ip address of the most recent computer
that logged on?

A doubt it, but worth a shot.

Hello,

Microsoft should have a log of it in their records. I don't think it is
accessible by normal users.

You can try e-mailing them through your Passport account but I doubt they
will assist you.

If live messenger is "enhanced" with Messenger Plus! and Messenger Plus! is
enhanced with the IPGet script you get the correct IP adress every time the PC
gets messenger logged on. You can log those IP's too. If it was a one time
happening event, I don't think you will have much luck. MS will probably call
it's being lazy something like privacy policy.
