On a stand alone computer (XP Home) used for recording, a recent recording
software update required that I have SP2. At some point during the download
I got this error message. Looking through the online info, one solution was
that there memory failure... so I replaced the memory (PC800 in a pair)...
couldn't get past initial start-up before I got the error. Re-installed XP,
but no help. I can't even get it to safe-mode.
Looked at the info on Haxdoor virus, only found one file (w32tm.exe) on the
list of files to rename and delete. Still no relief.
Oh, and ever since the first error message, the disk(s) always need to be
scanned for errors, and most times there are truncated files.
Any suggestions before I wipe the drive and start over from square 1?
The MB is an Intel D850EMV2 with a 2 GH P4. System ahs been very stable
until I attempted the download from the SP2 link.
