Stop 0x00000124

Here's one to mull over

I'm erractically receiving a Stop 0x00000124 error, which seems to b
related to when I'm playing music. Oddly enough, I disabled Sidebar an
I haven't had this error for nearly a week, and then now just a fe
minutes ago after opening Media Player and starting my favourit
playlist

It would appear that the error is related to the sound hardware, bu
usually when a driver fails and creates a stop error, then the BSOD sho
the driver file that faulted, but not this time

There are times when I can run Media Player for hours without error. A
other times, it only takes a few minutes to BSOD

These are my system specs

AMD 64x2 4800
ASUS A8N32-SLI Delux
4GB DDR40
Leadtek nVidia 6600, 128M
1.2 TB Hard Disk storag
Windows Vista Ultimate x6

Take a look at the ASUS webpage and check drivers there. If there'
nothing newer but betas, you may even want to try one of those

Also, if you think it's a driver issue, check your onboard soun
driver. If you've got the newest, try rolling back. If you've got a
older one, try updating

Let us know as this develops and we'll see if anyone can solve it

One step ahead of you

I'm pretty sure I'm using the latest drivers, but I have checked ASU
anyway, just in case

I've also just realized something. Think it's possible that the JBO
configuration on some of my hard disk may be the issue? I could b
wrong, but I believe this STOP 0x00000124 error started shortly afte
setting up JBOD

Seeing as this error is pretty erratic, it may be awhile

Could be that. Check your BIOS settings. If somehow there's a Pn
issue with the JBOD config, you may have an issue. Something is makin
me think it might have to do with the CD/DVD drive. Check tha
configuration as well

Search for Stop 0x00000124 on Microsoft Suppor

and 6 of 9 results make mention of -nVida 8800 + Any Sound-, 2 happe
during installation and 1 applies to RC1.

None give a workable solution

I use the ASUS A8N32-Sli-Deluxe on-board sound, the Realtek® ALC85
8-channel CODEC. If I use the drivers provided by ASUS or REALTEK, the
sound doesn't work at all. The only way to get the sound to work, oddl
enough, is to use the drivers found by Windows Update, which are newe
than the ones I can get from ASUS

I did get an odd message earlier, too, when attempting to check th
speaker setup. "A problem was detected with your sound hardware. Woul
to like to turn off advanced driver functions?

What's gives with that

Anyway, right now I'm moving what's currently not on backup off of th
JBOD setup, so that I can have the drives show up individually again, t
see if that helps

This has got to be one of the most annoying problem I've encountere
yet!:mad
