How Stop Acrobat Reader 2.0 from attempting to Update When Sync

Synchronising with emails containing PDFs, or simply copying PDFs via
ActiveSync to an iPAQ with Adobe Reader 2.0 installed is painfully slow.

It appears that the Reader attempts to do an update check for each and every
document, and then responds with the message following for each and every
document:

"Adobe Reader for Pocket PC has detected that your network is down, so check
for a newer version of the reader is not feasible now. Update will happen
once your network is up"

Adobe support site has same question, but no solutions. Anyone have a
solution (short of reinstalling Adobe Reader 1.0)?
