I have Diskeeper 2008 on my Vista machine. The HD is always working! I want
to run on manual, but do NOT want it to run atuomatically. How can I stop it
short of uninstalling it?
Tks.

I have it running here as well... on five hard drives with a total of
ten partitions and I have NO "thrashing".

It's something else... but to ease your mind, you can stop it by:

Clicking on the Start Orb

Typing SERVICES in the start-search area

Find Diskeeper, right-click, STOP.

Keep a look at things and if that cures your thrashing, then go back
and choose PROPERTIES instead of Stop.

Change it from Automatic (which starts it on every restart or
logoff/logon) to Manual.

Click Apply.

Open Diskeeper and disable Automatic Defragmentation. This is
explained in the User's Manual:

The Power Management Configuration tab lets you disable the Automatic Defragmentation.
Click on Diskeeper's Help (?) button.

Hi Pete,
(1) Double click on the Diskeeper 2008 icon on the desktop (or th
start menu) and launch the Diskeeper GUI.

(2) Right click on the relevant drive in the Computer section tha
lists all the disk volumes.

(3) Select 'Automatic Defragmentation' and a new window will pop up.

(4) Uncheck 'Enable Automatic Defragmentation on the selected volumes'
then click on 'Apply' and close the window.

You can also do this via the 'Volume properties' option in the quic
launch panel on the left side of the GUI. (Page. 22, Diskeeper 200
manual).

You can also schedule automatic defragmentation for specific period
based on a weekly pattern or specific dates (P.23, Diskeeper 200
manual).

Finally, you can also see the resource consumption as well as the fil
currently processed by Diskeeper in the Dashboard tab.

If you notice disk activity even while Diskeeper is not processing an
file, then it may be attributed to Vista's Superfetch, Indexing o
pagefile activity. I suspect this may be why the HDD activity seem
'excessive'.

Best regards
