Stop download once it has started

How do you stop a update download once it has started downloading? I am using
Windows XP

Turn off Automatic Update:
Right Click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Automatic Update tab
Make selections as desired.

Delete the Download file, Step 5 on this link:
