I'm trying to install Vista Beta 2, I have downloaded the iso file and
burned a DVD. I'm installing using Windows XP on a 20 gb logical partition
on the same drive as Windows XP (C partition). The installation goes well
until the first reboot. Then I get the following message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop
error screen, restart your computer. If the screen appears again, follow
these steps: check for viruseson your computer. Remove any newly installed
hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it
is properly configured and terminated. Run chdksk /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.
Tech information
STOP: 0x0000007B (0x81006BB0,0x00000034, 0x00000000,0x00000000)
I have run a virus scan - no viruses found, I have run chkdsk and no
problems found, I have not installed any new hard drives or hard drive
controllers, and since Windows XP runs, I'm sure the hard drive is properly
configured and terminated (what ever that means).
My system consists of an ASUS P5VDC-Mx motherboard, a Intel Pentium D 2.66
GHz CPU, 1 kb of ram, a 160 GB SATA hard drive, and a Nvidia GeForce 6200
video card.
Any help will be appreciated.

Respectfully,
Louis LeBrun

Are you installing to a RAID array or SATA? I had the same problem w/ my
RAID setup, the Vista install won't detect ANY of the dirvers I have for it
on ANY form of media.

I ended up installing it on my IDE drive being forced to change my boot
drive in BIOS whenever I want to boot a different OS. I can't find info
anywhere on pointing the new boot loader to a different device in the system,
only ways to point to diferent patitions on the same drive.

The 7b error can be caused by various things. One quite common is some kind
of IDE driver issue.

First I would recommend to try changing SATA settings in BIOS if possible
and see if that makes a difference.
If you happen to have spare PATA drives somewhere, try installing on one of
those too. It might use a different chip on the motherboard and thus help
avoid the 7b error.

The bios often have SATA Enchanced, legacy, compatibility, raid or such
modes.. Try one that doesn't say anything or says legacy or compatibility.

I'm installing SATA. I have no RAID array.
I tried installing Vista on as second IDE hard drive and got the same
results. (I did not remove the SATA drive, I just added a second drive.)

There is no options in the BIOS to change any SATA settings. I have added a
second IDE hard drive and got the same results.

If XP still works, run pci32.exe >output.txt and paste its output to here.

http://members.net-tech.com.au/dft0802/downloads.htm

It's not immediate remedy but might help fixing the issue.. in the long
run..
Also google -> beta client (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43655)
The first link should be Microsoft link. It needs .NET but I think it will
be installed if you try to run it without it..
When you report a bug with it, it'll include hardware info to MS. The more
people reporting this error the likely they'll do something.

Quite a few unknown devices..

You did download the updated
http://members.net-tech.com.au/dft08...ds/pcidevs.txt
file before running? I forgot to mention about that.. :-(

Also more information may come with -R switch since it looks like you have 2
pci express root thingies..
This is what it says on the download page:

"- Keeping up with modern hardware - with full PCI Express and multiple
root-bus support via the -R option, PCI32 outperforms older tools tenfold"

So it may be needed to use the -R to find out devices under the PCIe roots
.... Give it a try if you like and see if there's more output this way.

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experiences with you, in hopes of finding a
resolution to this most annoying prblem...

I too get the BSOD after first reboot in Vista install. It seems that the
general concensus is that 7B is Vista not liking something on the IDE bus.
So, I unplugged the ONLY IDE drive from the mobo (Pioneer DVR-109), and
disabled all IDE channels in the BIOS. I then rebooted, and deleted all the
files that Vista had written to my XP partition (C: ), copied the Vista DVD
to the partition I want to install it on (D: ), and ran setup from the hard
drive, which by the way, is 2 WD 740 GD's in RAID 0 on Nvidia SATA ports 3
and 4. So there are NO IDE devices AT ALL.

And guess what? Still got the 7B stop error.

I tried booting in safe mode, to finish the install, I disabled driver sig
checking, enabled boot logging, none having the desired effect of allowing
Vista to finish installing.

I will attach pci32's report in its entirety, in hopes that someone will see
what I have been unable to see.

Report-Date = 23-06-2006 (D-M-Y)

I have been trying to install Vista for 3 days now. I realize that it is
BETA, but FFS, this is rediculous. I am by no means a computer expert, but I
know how to install an OS. IT should'nt be this much hassle and fuss.

Thanks for all your input, It is greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to install Vista for 3 days now. I realize that it is
BETA, but FFS, this is rediculous. I am by no means a computer expert, but I
know how to install an OS. IT should'nt be this much hassle and fuss.

Thanks for all your input, It is greatly appreciated.

I have been trying to install Vista for 3 days now. I realize that it is
BETA, but FFS, this is rediculous. I am by no means a computer expert, but I
know how to install an OS. IT should'nt be this much hassle and fuss.

Thanks for all your input, It is greatly appreciated.

Victor
