Stop Explorer auto-detect - View change once and for all?

Is there some way to force Vista to NEVER change the Explorer view
based on the window contents?

I've managed to get it to preserve my column settings in most all
windows... except on occasion when there are only photos in the
folders, then it falls back to large icons and the not-so-useful
"photo" columns.

Thanks,
