Stop a particular update

Can you stop a particular update from always trying to download? No matter
what I do and even the MVP's can's help, I cannot get the new NetFramework
update to install so I guess I will just have to live with the original
program as it is now and never be able to do updates that pertain to that
program. I do not want to turn my auto updates off but it keeps finding and
trying to install this one I cannot get in.

Thank You Fruedi..I read the article and I do not have those update numbrs
listed in the article you linked me to. I can install the 1.1 but not the
first update patch (it keeps looking for file tmp53.tmp) and now not the one
that was just released. No one seems to be able to help my problem--even the
Microsoft help for updates does not reply. I am so frustrated being just a
home user that needs that netframework to operate my Print shop program that
I use daily.

Which "first update patch" exactly?
What's the content of the "KBxxxxxx.log" file to be find in the Windows
directory (while xxxxxx stands for the number of the yet unknown patch)?

Thank you Freudi. I downloaded the I downloaded the windows "clean up"
program and removed Net framework from there and downloaded and installed the
redistributable Net Framework Ver 1.1 "dotnetfx.exe". It went in fine. Then
I downloaded the Service pack for Net Framework 1.1 "name
NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe" and this is where I get the cant' find file
"tmp53.tmp" message. I also now have two net framework programs listed in my
add/remove programs. One has no bites and I can only remove one (one with
the bites). I even tried the msft clean tool and it only removes one. If I
try a manual uninstall, it tells me that the file is in use and will not
remove. I also cannot back up my registry (something I do not like to touch
as I am not knowledgable enough but I tried to follow line by line
instructions from the Microsoft site for manual removal) So, that is when I
went back to just the original version of Net Framework 1.1. so I could
operate my Print Shop program that I use daily. It will not urn without Net
Framework. You also asked for a log file. If I can find that file would it
be in c:|windows and be named KB867460.log? Do you want me to copy and past
the whole thing or let you know just one part of it?

Freudi..another thought from a "Heinz" in another post suggested the
following, but I could not understand the language and not being able to
export my registry I was a little nervous but thought the information might
be helpfull to you--maybe>
Heinz K. wrote:
Maybe that this willhelp you, it is a problem with the "DisableRollback"
entree in the registry.
You have to open the program "regedit"
Error 064x

Bei dem Fehler handelt es sich um ein Windows-Updateproblem. In der Registry
müssen die Einträge „DisableRollback“ den Wert 0 haben.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\Installer\DisableRollback

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Wind ows\Installer\DisableRollback

Ehm, what's "windows 'clean up'" concrete? Do you have an URL for us?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889109 won't help either, or?

Pardon? You can't export registry keys? Do you get an error message?

The last 30 to 50 lines should be enough.

BTW: The msi.dll file has which version number?

Hello Fruedi,
Windows clean up utility from
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301
When I try to export my registry I get:"Error writing the file, there may be
a disk or system file error."
I did not try to edit my registry according to that article >
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889109 and delete the following key because
I could not back up the registry first.
Would a system restore point do the same as a back up of the registry before
I remove this key?
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\.NET Framework\1.1\M827821
I do not have a log for KB867460 in C:\windows to send you.
The msi.dll file has which version number--There are several but the newest
is in c:\windows system 32 it is Version 3.1.4000.2435.

Also, In the article you pointed me to to deleet the following key,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\.NET Framework\1.1\M827821 ...I
do not have the M827821. I only have the M886903 and S867460
