Full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3)?
1. Write down what .NET Framework versions are already installed before you go uninstalling/removing any of them! How to determine which versions of the .NET Framework are installed and whether service packs have been applied http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785 2. Now see Resolutions Methods 1 or 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 (ignore the title). If no joy, see this related post by my colleague MowGreen: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...76de7769d04493 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Swissy wrote: > Hi, months and months ago (maybe even last summer), during the windows > update process, there was an update for 'security update for microsoft > .net > framework, version 1.1 service pace (KB928366). I went through the steps to check my versions and then to remove them before
reinstalling. No problem with 2.0 service pack 1, but when I removed 1.1 service pack 1, there were 2 instances of it displayed on my list of programs in the add/remove program list. I removed one of them, but the other still remained. When I tried to remove that one, I got a message saying "The action is only valid for products that are currently installed". When I tried to download and reinstall 1.1 service pack 1, I get an error message that says "Upgrade patch cannot be installed by windows installer service because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program". Do I need to install the 1.1 version before the 1.1 service pack 1? I successfully downloaded and installed version 2.0 service pack 1. The other problem that's occurred with these errors, is that my shortcut icons no longer are displayed on my task bar. Any help to resolve this .net problem would be appreciated. I have Windows XP SP3.
I did try both methods. When I tried running the windows installer cleanup, it did not show any .net frameworks on the list. What .NET Framework versions were installed before you ran both utlities,
Swissy? Does Windows Update offer you any .NET Framework updates or SPs now (e.g., KB928366)? Swissy wrote: > I have Windows XP SP3. > I did try both methods. I had 1.1 service pack 1, (version 1.1.4322.2032) as well as a 1.1 hotfix
(KB886903), which I also cannot remove via add/delete program and 2.0 service pack 1 (2.0.50727.1433). I successfully removed the 2.0 version and reinstalled the updated one again. The only windows update I get is the KB928366 which I have never been able to install because I keep getting an error on it. That's what started this whole problem by trying to get that update to install properly. => Please confirm the following in your next reply (answer by number; e.g.,
"1. Yes"): 1. You're currently running WinXP SP3 (yes/no) 2. You ran the .NET Framework automatic cleanup tool (as well as the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility) and it did NOT remove .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. (yes/no) 3. .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 is still listed in Add/Remove Programs and you cannot: (a) download KB928366, saving it to your desktop, from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...E-9A01345A8603 and (b) install it manually by double-clicking on saved file (NDP1.0sp3-KB928367-X86-Enu.exe). (yes/no) => Please answer the following questions in your next reply (answer by number): 4a. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? 4b. Were any of the applications in #4a above running in the background when you installed WinXP SP3? 1. yes
2. yes - but neither were successful (error on NET Framework automatic cleanup tool and the Windows > Installer Cleanup Utility did not list the .net framwork to select) 3. yes 4a) Norton Antivirus 2008, Adaware 4b) don't recall. service pack 3 did update successfully though with no problems. 5. no (started after I attempted to remove .net 1.1 sp1). There's not a doubt in my mind that NAV (and/or possibly Ad-Aware Pro's
Ad-Watch) is causing this problem. However, I'm not going to fight that battle. Open a free support incident, please. Start a free Windows Update support incident request: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527 Support for Windows Update: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (i.e., KB928366). For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through your usual support contacts. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.net Swissy wrote: > 1. yes > 2. yes - but neither were successful (error on NET Framework automatic > cleanup tool and the Windows >> Installer Cleanup Utility did not list the .net framwork to select) > 3. yes > 4a) Norton Antivirus 2008, Adaware > 4b) don't recall. service pack 3 did update successfully though with no > problems. > 5. no (started after I attempted to remove .net 1.1 sp1). > > > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > >> => Please confirm the following in your next reply (answer by number; >> e.g., >> "1.
