Stopping Partial Update dowload

I attempted to install XP SP2 using Automatic Update but had a complete
computer crash when I tried to install it. I had a Backup that was taken the
day before that I have reinstalled successfully, and I have since turned off
Automatic Backups, but I was partially through the download when I did the
backup. Now when I connect to the internet (using dial up) I am getting very
heavy usage, as if I am downloading the Service Pack still. I am well aware
of my usual usage and this is very heavy. Is there some way to cancell and
delete a partial download.

Brian;
Temporarily turn off Automatic Update:
Right click My Computer, click Properties.
Click Automatic Update tab.
Make selection as desired.

Follow step 5 on this link to delete what has already downloaded:

Order SP-2 on CD per Step 1 on this link and follow the Service Pack
Installation Checklist to install SP-2.

Turn on Automatic Update to desired setting.

Addendum,

I have since reattempted to download and install SP2 manually (not using
Automatic Updates, that is still turned off). I did the update in one go and
installed it with no troubles at all. I will continue to leave Automatic
Update off and periodically check them manually.
PS I always use Nortons Internet and Antivirus.
thanks

Brian;
Normally updates come out the second Tuesday of the month, so plan to check
accordingly.
