Stopping unwanted Vista critical updates

Does anyone know how to stop unwanted Vista updates?
I previously had Office 2007 trial on my PC. I uninstalled it properly using
the add/remove programs feature in Windows Vista and installed Office 2003
instead. Critical updates provides me with both 2003 and 2007 Office updates.
I de-select Office 2007 and install only the Office 2003. But next time
critical updates load, the unwanted 2007 updates are back again. In XP when
you de-select a critical update you then have a confirmation box come up that
says "don't ask me about these again". You check the box and you never get
bugged about the unwanted updates again. Does Vista have this feature or
something similar?
Thanks
