Storage folders. Why? What are they? Good?

I looked throughout this forum and checked WLM help and could find no reason
on why there are storage folders and what good they do. The name of the
folders are redundant to the mail program and I haven't yet figured out the
rules on when an email goes to my mail folder or to the same named storage
folder.

There has got to be a reason for storage folders! Somebody tell me so I can
be happy with them and not just say "that's the way it is."

Enlighten me! Thanks.

But that is the "way it is". Okay ...

I only see three system generated folders under "Storage folders":

Drafts
Sent items
Deleted items

Drafts is a place to store working documents; though I have never really
used this folder much in any email program.

Sent items is used for copying articles posted using the NNTP client. If you
never use an NNTP service, this is probably useless to you, but it is a
system generated folder which can't be deleted.

Deleted items is a temporary repository for items deleted from any folder
under "Storage folders".

The Storage folders section is useful as an archive of messages you wish to
save. It is particularly useful as a place to hold email from any POP3
account; use it to copy any messages you need to save from a POP3 account
before deleting that account; if you don't, you will lose those messages
when WLMail executes the operation to remove the account. WLMail will pop up
a warning before you can proceed. Heed it.

Unfortunately, because they are system generated folders, you do not have
the option to delete them.

You can hide them. Go to VIEW - Layout - Folder Pane, then uncheck "show
storage folders".
