Strange action with Device manager

When I click on Device Manager it opens a folder named ALLEN-PC (my user
name is Allen) and lists the various device types. OK up to there, but
then the list vanishes and then reappears. This is repeated over and
over and over on approximately a three-second or slightly less cycle,
making it difficult to spot and open the specific item I want. If I am
lucky enough to get to the item and click on it, it will open,
apparently normally. I will add that the list opens sequentially and
closes the same way, sort of like there was a mad accordion player
inside the box; if the item I want is toward the bottom of the list it
appears for only a split second. I have never encountered anything like
this on any PC, minicomputer or maninframe. Any ideas as to how to get
DM back under control?

If you look at File > Options
there is an option to delete the saved view of the console.
Maybe this saved view has somehow been corrupted ?

Options is grayed out and clicking on it does nothing. Thanks very much
for your reply (very prompt, I might add), though.

I had to reboot last night, and this morning I thought that I should
check Device Manager. Voila! No more yoyo. I feel stupid now, that I
didn't try rebooting when the problem appeared.
Patient: Doctor, I have this pain.
Doctor: Reboot and call me in the morning.
Skip to next morning:
Patient: Doctor, the pain went away.
