Strange behavior after SP3 install

I am wondering if any one else has experienced the problems I am
having since installing SP3:

1. MS' wireless Intellimouse's signal strength periodically becomes
weak and then mysteriously recovers, then goes weak, then recovers.
Very spasmodic. Have gone back to a wired mouse until I find a
resolution.

2. Some installed apps will not load - the app's .exe file seems to be
dead. Will do an uninstall/reinstall of these particular apps (if
possible) to get them back up, but would like to know what went wrong.

3. Some new apps will not install - the app's installer file's .exe
does not respond. Again, I need a solution there. Saw a reg tweak
for an .exe fix on Karen's website, but reluctant to apply it, since I
don't know what's in it, what it does, or how to remove it if it
doesn't help or screws something up.

4. Installed device on LPT1 is unstable - will not stay installed.
Have uninstalled/reinstalled all manner of ports, drivers, etc. but no
joy. Again, Karen's site had a Save Setting reg tweak, but without
knowing whether or not it applies or the content, reluctant to try.

I can't find any gremlins via multiple AV scans, Malware scans, etal,
so I have concluded all of this is SP3 related. Would like to know if
I'm incorrect in that conclusion, but would really like to find a fix
(or multiple fixes) for all.

Yes, I have contacted MSFT support and am going through their workup
to, hopefully, a solution, but just wanted to run this all by the
austere group that regularly offers advice, support and cryptic
comments in this NG.

Thanks

Just in case you contacted the wrong MS Support:

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3) and *only until* 14 Apr-09.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 | select
"Windows XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"
