Want to do a complete PC backup for my newly purchased notebook,
however, i started to do the backup to dvd, it seems it never ended,
and kept prompt me to insert a blank disk.

I have two partitions in one single hard drive, drive c is the system
partition, drive d is the backup image of my notebook for recovery,
Control panel -> system and maintenance -> Back and restore center ->
Back up computer -> DVDRW Drive, it said it will take 4 to 7 dvds,
however, it still continued to prompt me to insert a blank disk after
the 9th dvd, then i stop manually,

Is it normal?
How can chase the backup log?
Should I skip the recovery disk from the backup?

thanks
huang

Most laptops provide a utility to "copy" the recovery partition to
removeable media (DVD/CD) allowing recoveing the space used for the
partition (usually 9+ gigs).

There is no value in backing up the recovery partition - keep in mind that
the partition restores the computer to the original configuration - any
chnages made since purchase are lost.

As you know, size of the backup depends on used space on the HD and type of
data. Complete Backup should give the size of the backup. Suggest consider
using an external HD.

Should have also mentioned number of DVDs would be affected using 4g single
layer or 8g double layer disks

While I have no asnswer to your problem I wonder if you have examined any of
the 9 disks you wrote?

Look at one of them in Windows Explorer (perhaps not the 9th one) and see if
you have the same problem I have at the moment - each DVD has only about
250mb of files stored on it!

For me this has only just started after months of unremarkable back-ups.

I guess I have chosen backup the entire computer which include two
partitions (one Windows Vista System and one hidden recovery
partition), it turns out to an endless loop to backup my hidden
recovery partition to DVD.
Thanks for all the advices.
