There's nothing unusual about this unit, which otherwise
works perfectly now.

Working on a Word document, I'll often do CTL-S to save
it and see "Windows cannot save..."

I'll be invited to retry, and upon accepting that
invitation I'll have to change the name of the file to
make things work.

As the only user of this laptop, you'd think I could
somehow become its master...

??

Sometimes in Word 2007 documents become Read Only and any changes to the doc
cannot be saved, making you change the name of the doc to save any changes.
I don't know why this occurs, only that it does from time to time and that
the only solution I've found is to change the name of the doc being saved.
This would be a good item to post on the Word discussion group.

Check the properties of the document you are saving to see if its attribute
is set to Read Only. Uncheck it if it is, then try saving again or save
another copy using the 'Save As' from the Office Button menu.
