Strange updates...

Hi. I keep getting the "new updates available" icon on my taskbar with
Important Updates for programs I've never owned, like a Security Update for
Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
Junk Email Filter and Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System, among
others. I thought Windows Updates were tailored to your particular system
configuration. This is becoming quite annoying.

Any idea why I'm getting these?

Thanks.

You can just go to the Update site manually, go to the list of available
updates, right-click the update in question and select hide.

The update won't come to your machine again.

Do you have any related viewers, converter packs etc ? These can trigger
Office type updates.

Americano- wouldn't turning off updates cause me to miss the ones I actually
need?

Tom- I've never used any viewers or converters for Publisher 2003 or
Outlook. And I've certainly never had Office 2007 on my desktop (though it is
on my laptop).

Yes, Windows will not install them automatically.. You can always
manually install new updates. I prefer to manually install my updates,
because Windows always tries to install some update I do not need that
ultimately ends up causing problems rather than improving the
performance.

My thought was just that if you were to disable the automatic updates,
it would stop prompting you to install the update.

He said turn off *automatic* updates.

If you do it right, you can then manually run the updates you want.
