WTH?

This is exactly what happened:

I have 2 hard drives, I wanted some more space on C:\ so I merged
another partition (on the same physical drive obviously) now my Sony DVD
writer has completely disappeared, in device manager nothing. BIOS -
nothing

This has been going on for 5+ days, after doing a lot of searching here
and in other forums/sites, the windows support article that mentions
editing the regisrt values of "UpperFilter" and "LowerFilter" were
useless because those values are not present in my registry

I'm about to shut down physically remove the drive altogether but I
wanted some feedback first.

Please help anyone.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Start with the BIOS. If it isn't seen there, it's not going to be seen in
Windows. Check your detection settings for that cable, you may also need to
shutdown and reseat it.

Have you been inside your computer lately? You may have joggled a connecting
cable. Open the box again then unplug and re-plug the cables to your DVD
burner. It it works fine. If not, try replacing the DVD ribbon cable.

If you have 2 players make sure they are set as master/slave or you can set
the drives for "cable select".

And if it is SATA, it is especially easy to have a loose connection. Reseat
at both ends.
