Thanks, Peter. I have, several times, scanned and turned off add-ons. Same
difference.
I figured out how to make IE open by monitoring it in Process Explorer, then
changing the permissions on the registry keys it seemed to fail at.
So... now it opens......... as a basket case. Completely locked. It will
not go to a web page, merely telling me that
www.whatever is currently
unavailable. It will not open Internet Options. And it will not even
close - it has to be killed with task manager. Call me baffled. Of course
the web pages are available. Firefox on the same computer is working fine.
Windows mail is working fine.
So all network connections should be okay.
I have a suspicion it has to do with Search mostly not working, which also
may have to do with registry permissions. But since both IE and Search once
worked, I cannot get a clue to what might have changed those permissions.
Whatever it was, is the culprit.
