stupid question, maybe

How can I tell which version of Windows Live Messenger I have? I don't see
"help-about" anywhere on the gui., including the tab options. Also, is
there a "check for new version" feature available?

On the menu bar, Help / About messenger. Version 8.1 (Build8.1.0178.00) is
the latest for XP I believe.

If you cant see the menu bar (File Edit Actions Tools Help) you may see a
small arrow in a box next to the minimise/maximise/close at the top left
of the window. Click on this then the option to show menu bar.

Spikey answered your other questions but Messenger checks for a new version every time you
sign in.

However, usually the indicator is 3-4 months behind an actual release, just to stagger out a
release.

There hasn't been new versions in awhile now.
