stuttering

Whether I am listening to a live streamed broadcast or music on an external
device or music stored on my computer, it is distorted and stutters during
playback. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am using Windows Media Player
11 on XP. (I'm not a computer tech type so please explain in simple terms if
possible.) thanks

Has this always happened? If you minimize the player, does it continue
to stutter?
