Sudden failure of major sysem services.

I am running Vista Ultimate, and I just went through a failure of several
important services, including networking, plug n play camera compatibility,
as well as sound issues.

The network connection control panel no longer function, and just locks
explorer up. If I connect my camera, it does not work, and says that it
failed to install the driver for it, even though this very same camera worked
just last week on this PC, and finally several apps have stopped outputting
sound, while other apps still output sound. If I go into the system info
(right click on my computer > properties), my performance raiting is not
there, it does not say processor, or processor speed. RAM amount is not
availible either, and computer description and workgroup are no longer listed
as well. I believe them all to be related in some way, but I have no idea
where to start. I've checked out some processes, and poked around
services.msc, but did not see anything that looked out of place.

If I had to guess, I would think that it may be related to scvhost.exe,
since I know that handles multimedia and network functions and the like.

Have you ran an Antivirus scan on the system? Have you tried doing a System
Restore to an earlier point time before you started experiencing these
problems? Have you recently installed any programs that might have caused
this to happen - Windows Live OneCare by any chance?

I have not run a virus scan, but I will now. Also, I seem to have no restore
points, even though I'm quite sure I had system restore enabled. The last
program that I installed was that Windows survey thing. You run the prog for
3 months, and you get a software of your choice from MS. I have since removed
it however

Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

It says no problems detected, and doesn't do anything. Is there away you can
do a repair install, like basically reinstall windows without losing all your
files, like you could do with XP and earlier.

This error usually means that you are out of RAM. How much RAM do you have?
When you start task manager, what is the physical memory usage percentage in
the status bar?
