Sudden Loss Of sound on laptop

Hi

I have a laptop and use vista home basic. Last week the sound suddenly
stoped working, no reason at all. I did not add or remove any software
or do anything. It just stoped. I have tried external speakers but same
thing.

Check your installed Windows Updates and see if a sound driver was
installed. If so, go back into Device Manager, select sound/properties and
roll back the driver. If this still doesn't work, go to the laptop
manufacturer's website or the sound chip manufacturer and download the
latest driver. Uninstall the current driver, reboot, then install the new
driver. If you still have no sound the chip may be fried, in which case I
hope you're still under warranty.
