Suddenly can't connect to FTP

Hey All,

Yesterday I was trying to access my FTP through vista explorer, but couldn't
remember my password. I typed in the wrong password a few times and as a
result I can no longer access any of my FTP locations.

I have turned off Vista's firewall, turned off AVG, checked the router, made
a new port 21 rule, and restarted my PC.

I simply can't figure out what might have happened and I can't seen to find
any solution. If anyone knows what else I can check I would appreciate it!

Jeff

AutoComplete can be cleared of passwords. IE, tools menu, options, Content
tab.

Also click start, and type:
control keymgr.dll

Hey,

This isn't an IE issue. I don't connect to my FTP via IE. I was using Vista
file explorer.

Not knowing my password isn't the issue, the issue is that I get a "Cannot
connect to FTP" no matter what FTP location I try to access. My friend can
connect to my FTP from his PC, but I can't.

UPDATE:

It seems I CAN connect to other FTP sites...but not my own.

Could Vista have blocked connections to those FTP's because of bad password
attempts? Can I check my PC for where that might be if that's the case?

There is an account lockout threshold setting in Account policies, but whether
that has anything to do with FTP I haven't got a clue.

Control Panel > Admin tools > Local Security Policy > Account policies >
Account lockout policy > Account lockout threshold.

Default is 0 , never lock out.

Thanks Dave, but there doesn't seem to be a "local security Policy" in Admin
Tools. :S

Yes, but I suspect it's not the issue. All it tells me is that the
connection can't be established. This doesn't help however as it's too
generic, and because I can connect to other FTP site (and others can connect
to my FTP) it seems it's just an error message that means nothing.

When I try to log into the FTP, it does hang the program for a good
minute...so something must be blocking it....but since it's not the firewall,
or virus software (and Vista Home doesn't have a password thing), I can't
tell what the problem is.

What about having a poke around in the registry, see if you have something like this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies
