Suddenly Guest access only

I have been unable to sync with PC for a week. I finally noticed that after
'connected', Active Sync thinks I am a 'Guest'. I found an artiicle that says
I changed the device name, changed it back and didn't soft reset. I didn't
change the name and did soft reset but the guest situation remains. Any clue
how to get the device names to recognize each other...or any approach to
finding why I am suddenly a guest?
