Does anyone know if Microsoft is going to continue to support and provide
upgrades for Windows XP, now that Vista is doing so well and Windows 7 is
getting closer to its launch?

Windows XP entered Extended Support Lifecycle earlier this year. If SP3 is
installed, you will continue to receive critical security updates (only)
until mid-to-late 2014 and you will still be able to access/use Windows
Update website.
