Hi There -

I am trying to get my new Dell Axim to synchronise (Activesync 4) with our
exchange server (2003 on SBS 2003 - exchange upgraded to SP2 as part of
trying to make this work) and i keep getting the message:

"Your account in exchange server does not have sufficient permission to
synchronise with your current settings. Contact your exchange server
administrator"
Support Code: 85010004"

(note - i dont think this is the same as the 85010014 error that other
people are mentioning - mine ends in 04 not 14)

I cant see how my exchange server account doesnt have sufficient
permissions - i am a domain admin, all the mobile services on the exchange
features tab on my user account are enabled (outlook mobile access, user
initiated synchronisation, up to date notifications, outlook web access and
imap - the only one disabled is POP as we dont run it). On the exchange
server, under Global Settings / Mobile Services everything is ticked (i dont
need "up to date synchronisations but i thought i would test with everything
ticked to make sorting the problem out simpler)

Can anyone suggest what i am doing wrong? is there something else that i
need to enable / permissions that need to be granted?

Thanks for your help

Shaun

I think I have the solution.

Special thanks goes to MS PSS on this one.

Open up Exchange System Manager -> Global Settings -> Mobile Services

Righ click -> properties

Open Device Security. Uncheck all options in this panel. Close the panel.

As long as your Certs are in order, the synch should work. I'm guessing that
becasue the devices don't have the manegment pack installed these options are
tripping something up. Hope this works for everyone!

I have just had a similar problem but despite checking all the permissions, I
was only able to resolve it by recreating the V Dir as described in the MS
docs.

It worries me that this should be the solution and will the fault reappear.

My client is running SBS 2003. I have tried the MS KB articles, method 2
specifically, and I still cannot get this to work even with having SSL
support unchecked. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wish there was more
Microsoft information on the error messages. Support in this area is
seriously lacking.

By the way, I have this running on another client running full Windows
Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 with no problems. The MS KB articles
worked in this case. SBS 2003 is my only hiccup.

Direct from Microsoft's err.exe tool:

# as an HRESULT: Severity: SUCCESS (0), Facility: 0x81, Code 0xb70c
# as an HRESULT: Severity: SUCCESS (0), Facility: 0x850, Code 0x1004
# for hex 0x1004 / decimal 4100 :
PDERR_LOADDRVFAILURE cderr.h

ERROR_DHCP_ADDRESS_CONFLICT
winerror.h
# The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already
# in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled
# until the DHCP client can obtain a new address.
# 2 matches found for "8501004"

Hope that helps

I don't know what that DHCP issue was about. That is not my problem.

My problem is the 85010004 problem when trying to ActiveSync with a
smartphone running WinMobile 5.0 and ActiveSync 4.1 with Exchange on SBS2003.
Does anyone have a clue about this?

The error code information was from the typo in the subject header.
Running the proper error code (85010004) against the err.exe utility,
the output is different.

First of all, err.exe is Microsofts tool to parse out error codes and
spit out more useful/relevant information about it. More questions?
Google it.

Second, it seems as though you problem may very well have to do with
invalid certificates. As I understand it, the mobile device needs a
valid cert whether IIS demands one or not. In many ways, SBS plays by
its own set of rules, and since I don't work with SBS, I may not be able
to provide much more help.

I had similar experience with Windows Mible on my Cingular HT 2125 i.e
support code 8501004. After playing different options and readin
forums I narrowed it down to exchange account, eventhough loca
accounts workd fine. Using trial and error, it has worked ( for m
atleast ). Try to see if it also works for you -

- Open Outlook
- Goto Tool | Email Accounts
- Under email section, select 'View or change existing e-mail accounts
and click 'Next' button.
- Select 'Exchange' account that has problem and click on 'Change'.
new child window should open with label 'E-mail Accounts'.
- Click on 'More Settings....'. New child window should pop-up labelle
'Microsoft Exchange Server'.
- Select 'Advanced' tab. In this tab, there should be a button a
bottom saying 'Offline Folder File Settings...'.
- Click on 'Offline Folder File Settings...' and click 'Disable Offlin
Use'.
- Click OK all the way through and restart MS Outlook.
- Trying 'Synching' again.
- Mine worked, hopefully your will work too.

System Information
Hewlett Packard xw8000 workstation
MS Office Outlook 2003 SP2
Windows X
