Suppression of display of rejected updates

With all the problems with the Framework SP1 update, I just downloaded and
installed the SP1 directly (worked fine, by the way). Now Windows Update
keeps showing me that I need to download this update.

Does anyone know how to uncheck an irrelevant update and NOT have it show up
again everytime the computer is booted?

Willy,

Take another look at what the update Windows is asking you to download -- it
may be the Security Update for the Framework SP1 (Security Update for
Microsoft.NET Framework, version 1.1 Service Pack (KB929729). That's what
happened to me. Apparently after the Framework SP1 update appeared on my
computer and Windows saw it, the update feature then saw the need for the
Security Update.

Good luck.

P.S. Take a look at my "nightmare" a couple of days ago in my post
entitled, "My Update is Installed" on the 30th of November.

OK, thanks for pointing that out. But my question still remains open. For
example, I still have Access 2003 on my machine (no need to upgrade to 2007)
so I still get update notification for all of Office 2003. I want to uncheck
all the downloads for the rest of Office 2003 and not have them keep showing
up again.

Willy,

You got me there -- I'm not computer literate and not sure what you need to
do. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and the Update Window has an
option to "Get updates for more products". When I click that option, several
Microsoft products appear, including Microsoft Office, which I don't have on
my computer, so I don't get update notifications. It seems that a person
could "uncheck" or "unselect" an option to receive updates for other products
at that location, but again I say, I'm not computer literate -- I am a
retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Aviation Maintenanceman and know just a little
bit more about airplanes than computers. Hopefully someone else will read
your post and have the answer.

Good luck.

To hide an update, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click either Windows Update or Microsoft
Update.
2. Click Custom.
3. Click to clear the check box that is next to the update that you want to hide.
4. Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click the "Don't show this update
again" check box.
5. Click Review and install updates.
