SUS or WSUS needs Domain Memership?

Hello,

i need to find out following question:

The Situation:
The customer has got a location with one own SUS Server. The location
will be migrated to another one in a separate Domain. After that, the
clients should be delivered with hotfixes from an WSUS (yes, "W"sus)
server, from an foreign domain.

So the clients are member in their domain, and the Updates will come
from an foreign domain including WSUS Server.

My question is:
If the customer configures their clients in the source network
environment with GPOs to use the IP or FQDN of the (or some) reachable
WSUS server, are the clients able to use an remote WSUS server by just
TCP/IP connection or is domain membership (or trust) neccesary? Should
be running without i think, but not sure.

In the WSUS Requirements I quickly find only informations like "can be
accessed from Internet Explorer on any Windows computer in the
corporate network".

Thank you.
Regards,

Roger

WSUS does not require domain membership to obtain or provide services.

The only AD functionality used by WSUS is the distribution of policy to
configure the Windows Update Agent behavior.
