I have a SUS running on Windows Server 2000. I have a new Windows
Server 2003 machine that will host WSUS.

Do I need to upgrade my old SUS to a WSUS before I can synchronize?
Can't I simply leave the old machine as is and synchronize from SUS to
WSUS?

Hi,

FYI:

Please post WSUS questions to the newsgroup dedicated to WSUS:
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new
group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:

Is there a Google Groups equivalent to the microsoft.com link that you
provided?

Hi,

No, not yet. I suggest you contact Google and ask if they can add
the microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services group...

That's very informative. Thank you. I manage multiple passport
accounts already. I guess I must create another passport account to
access the WSUS group (and other groups I would hope). As for Google
access, I can only contact them and wait. In the mean time, WSUS
approvals stopped:

"The browser's current pop-up blocking settings are preventing portions
of Windows Server Update Services from functioning correctly. Please
configure your pop-up blocker to allow all pop-ups on this site, and
then close the browser and reopen Windows Server Update Services. For
more information, see help."

I'd rather just proceed than complain to a message board, but
(1) I didn't invent the browser settings. Server 2003 SP 1 shipped
with these browser settings.
(2) What site? The only URL listed in the GUI is the machine local url
for ApproveDialog.aspx

So now I must allow all sites just to finish my installation? Thus,
increased browser security as hailed in Server 2003, is partially out
the window if you want to sync WSUS. What a twist of fate.
