"Scott Davis",
Windows Update has a database within it that records what it has downloaded,
and verifies what is needed. This means that the OS in question is similar
to other SKUs of Windows XP, but different enough that it may need other
updates.
SUS is a perfectly acceptable and free method for keeping all of the
machines patched, but the question devolves to what level of control you
wish over the process.
Who are "they" when you mention, "they want to throw SUS at 'em to
patch/keep them patched."
The client? A group of consultants? Microsoft?
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
