svxhost error 0x745f2780 and generic host proces for win 32 service errors
have been popping up after restart. I went to debug and send error report
and it sent me to a window update page to install a fix---but it didn't work
and I've done this many times in the past few days.

Also when I go to the microsoft update site check for updates---it doesn't
stop searching, it used to be very quick at telling me what critical and
optional updates are available.

I have Windows XP Media center edition on an HP Laptop..

Please advise,
TJ

Im getting this same things

"The instruction at "0x745f2780" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "read".

What is this? And how do i fix this? Debugging does nothing, cancelling
hangs the computer. When i DO debug, i lose all controls on my sound.
Using a Dell Inspirono 6400 Laptop.

PLEASE ADVISE!

Try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) & reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore

If no joy, try deleting the contents of this folder (or the folder itself) &
reboot:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

NB: Deleting the folder SoftwareDistribution or its contents will delete
your Update History at WU/MU webpage.

Also see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891

Workaround: Change the default from Microsoft Update to Windows Update: Go
to Microsoft Update > Click on Change Settings in left pane > Scroll to
bottom of page > To Stop Using Microsoft Update > Disable Microsoft Update
software and let me use Windows Update only (check).

What worked? Did you install the 927891 hotfix? (Yours answers will help
others here.)

With Windows Update as your default, you will not be offered any updates for
MS Office and will have to install them manually via Office Update website:

Negative. The hotfix does *NOT* work. Thats the hotfix that Windows sent me
to after I clicked send error report, I tried that multiple times. What *DID*
work was to reboot my computer in safemode and delete the
SoftwareDistribution folder. (It won't let me in regular mode.) I also have
not set it up back to Microsoft Update, only Windows Update, but I am
wondering if that will keep me from receiving important updates??

Thanks for posting back.

With Windows Update as your default, you will need to check in at Office
Update to keep your Office applications fully patched:
