Hi

I have a problems with the company computers after updateting Windows XP
with the latest Microsoft updates.
The clients are connected to a WSUS server running the latest version. When
XP starts the wuauclt.exe is startet but the yellow shield in the system tray
isn't startet and there is a svchost.exe that uses 90-99% of the CPU.
After 5-10 minuts the svchost.exe stops and the computer is ready for use.

There isn't any new Windows updates but it starts anyway????

Hi

It seemed like a good reply but it didn't solve the problem.

When the computers are logged in the svchost still uses 90-99% for the first
5-15 minuts.

All the computers are connected to the WSUS server through GPO, if I remove
a computer from the WSUS GPO then the problem is removed?

Not sure how many systems you admin but, to temporarily resolve the
issue, one can stop the Automatic Updates service and then
delete the contents of the WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download
and DataStore\Logs folders.
Also, in the DataStore folder is a file named DataStor.ebd
Suggest deleting that, too as it *can* grow quite large.

Deleting the contents of Logs and DataStor.edb will erase the history of
updating shown at either the WU or MU update sites.
Restart the Automatic Updates service after doing the above.

I manage around 75 computers.

I have tried your solution on two of the computers and it didnt' help. I
just talked to a former co-worker and he told me that he had the same problem.

Is this a general MS problem?
