Hi.

I have just started to get this message over the last two days.

The full message error message is as follows

"svchost.exe at "0x75606eb5" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory
could not be read"

I started to get this on Sunday evening after I switched on the PC. I had
been on the PC on Sunday morning early for a few hours, and then went out. I
came back in later in the evening and when I switched on the PC I noticed a
few things.

1) I had difficulty right clicking on the desktop to enable me to select and
changes to the screen saver etc. I had to go through the display properties
etc instead.

2) I noticed that I still had sounds for all events, but none in windows
media player 11 at all.

3) I also found out that my sound card settings are now acting strange too.
IE I can see the icon for the Hercules Digifire 7.1 icon, but when I click on
it nothing at all happens.

4) I can't seem to get the windows up-date to work, IE just keeps giving me
a "no connectivity or page cannot be displayed" option instead of going to
the up-date site.

5) I keep getting these svchost.exe window boxes popping up each time I
open anything like IE, WMP11, but not when opening outlook express.

I am running Windows XP Pro English, with SP3 and all updates are current.
I am behind a router with all ports blocked except for the ones I need for
gaming applications.

I use Eset NOD32 as my AV with Windows Defender.

I have downloaded and run Webroots Spysweeper and Hijack This as well as a
full scan from both Defender and NOD32, and yet none of them have found
anything at all.

I am pretty much stuck now, and can't think of anything else to try and
wondered if anyone in here might have any suggestions at all.

Many thanks, and Best regards.

Steve.

You may want to try a more specific group with this issue as this is for
updates from Microsoft and what you described has nothing to do with updates.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
posting to this newsgroup.

You are seeing the affects of a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe
Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
