I've had this problem for awhile now. .my symantec anti-virus says it's out
of date and when I go in and click live update it doesn't do anything. . . it
has the hour glass but doesn't update it. . .it just says version 5/23/2008
rev.2. . .how do I update it. . .and I don't want to have to update a new
antivirus program...

Symantec is not the same as Microsoft.
Symantec has little to nothing to do with Windows Update.

You computer may well have come with Symantec AntiVirus (or Norton
AntiVirus) - but that does not mean your support comes from Microsoft (or
even those who sold you the computer) for said product. It would (most
likely) come from those who made said product and whom you pay a
subscription fee to (in all likelyhood - unless you have a strange version
of Norton - or this is a business machine and the version is a corporate
version with no subscription (as it assumes your business paid a lot for it)
or it is one you shouldn't have anyway ... and so on.

In other words - if you do get any help in the Windows Update newsgroup for
your Symantec AntiVirus issue - it will be someone who is feeling generous
and/or bored at the time in all likelyhood. Your best bet for help would be
straight from Symantec.

Most people who frequently answer questions here would likely tell you to
remove it completely and install something less intrusive anyway. Probably
even give you a link to the latest Norton Removal Tool:

http://service1.symantec.com/support...hm&lg=en&ct=us

But that is just because of much experience and knowledge about the issues
that can arise from many Norton/Symantec products for standard users...
Nothing to concern yourself over. ;-)

( It was just recently updated too!

In case you have no idea how to contact Symantec...

Good Luck!
