Sync Subset of contacts

I have Outlook 2007 and a windows mobile 6.1 device.
Is there any way to synchronize only a subset of my contacts with my phone?
I have over 1000 contacts in outlook an this is too many for my device
because of common names; it takes too long to find a contact.

The contacts in the root contacts folder in Outlook will be synced. None of
the subfolders would be synced. So, if you move the contacts that you don't
want synced into a "DoNotSync" folder, that should prevent them from being
used.
