Synching files between vista laptop and xp desktop

Hi

We have a peer to peer network between an xp professional desktop (acting as
a pseudo-server) with all the user files (documents etc.) stored on it, and
a vista laptop which accesses those files via sharing. My question is, is
there a way to have the vista laptop access those files even when offline?
Does the offline files feature work in a non-server situation as well?
