synching replacements

Hi Folks,
I am using synchronization with offline files. If I choose to Save As... and
change the name of these files placing them elsewhere, and then synchronizing
my offline files, the contents of my new files is placed in the original
files on the server. Is this the way it functions or can I change this to
only happen with my original offline files? Thanks!
