Synchronisation problem

I upgraded the ROM on my Pocket PC phone from WM 2003 SE to WM5. Using the
Pocket PC in its cradle connected to my laptop via USB, sync of Outlook data
over from my desktop and back using ActiveSync 4.1 worked perfectly with my
old WM 2003 setup. Now after the ROM upgrade to WM 5, only files and Notes
sync over to the PDA2K. No appointments, contacts or emails sync over. But
"explore the Pocket PC" works fine. With the ActiveSync dialogue box open,
if I click on "view status", I get the error message. "ActiveSync
encountered a problem on the desktop: Support code 85010014" . I also get a
message popping up on my Pocket PC after a sync attempt saying "Pocket PC
Networking - Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address".

Because it is vital to me to have my desktop Outlook data on my Pocket PC, I
have spent many hours searching the web and I saw a large number of posts
describing my problem. So it seems that this is a very common problem. It
is said to be a server error and desktop problem with Outlook apparently. I
have tried the following with no success:-

1. Scanning my Outlook pst file for errors using scanpst.exe
2. Uninstalling Outlook and re-installing it
3. Uninstalling AS 4.1 and re-installing it
4. Deleting the partnership and creating a new one
5. Not tried - creating a new pst file from scratch - don't know how to and
am worried that I'll lose my Outlook pst file data

(Not sure if item 2 "uninstall of Outlook" still leaves bits of the old
Outlook files intact though which get kept after the re-install? I don't
know how you uninstall Outlook and clear out every last trace of the
programme?)

My questions:-

Does anyone have a definitive fix for this problem?
If not fixable, will Bluetooth ActiveSync work to sync my Outlook data over
(once I've figured out how to set it up)?
Should I uninstall ActiveSync and instead use a 3rd party sync software like
Inteklilink or Pocket Mirror? Are these "bullet proof" and guarenteed to
sync my Outlook data over to my PPC where ActiveSync has failed?

I have picked 2 relevant sites - you computer experts might recognise
something in there which I need to do to get a fix to make ActiveSync sync
all my Outlook data over

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx (this
mentions sync error 85010014)

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/archi...p/t-56146.html

(Ttowards the bottom of the above web page, the poster "Duglaw" has a
transcript of a MS support person who took control of his PC and fixed the
problem - I should say that I also made the registry changes mentioned in
the transcript)

This problem is a very frustrating one and I've spent ages trying to fix it!

My system

Windows XP SP2
AS 4.1
Pocket PC in cradle connected to laptop via USB at home
Laptop receiving internet from wireless router
Internet connection is to my UK ISP (BT Yahho internet)
I have 2 POP3 email accounts in Outlook set to receive my email. I don't
think ?? I have a MS Exchange account
Outlook is in online mode

I forgot to say that favorites sync over OK. Also, it's strange that during
a sync, check marks appear early on next to appointments, tasks and email
signifying those items have been sync'd even though nothing syncs over.

Raj, yes I am using Kaspersky antivirus. I forgot to say that the probem is
still there if I disable real time protection. And by the way, it is also
still there if I disable the Windows firewall.

In any case, favorites and desktop Outlook Notes sync over. Doesn't the fact
that I get a part sync indicate it's not an antivirus or firewall issue?

Does anyone know how to disable script blocking for Outlook?

Reason for my question - I've just gone back through this microsoft article

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx

Extract from article.................

ActiveSync reports a Synchronization Error code 85010014 because of
one of the following reasons:

Synchronization Fails because Application Data Folder is Redirected

Synchronization Fails because Outlook is in Offline Mode

Synchronization Fails because of Outlook script blocking

Synchronization Fails because ActiveSync is incorrectly registered
with Outlook

Outlook Scripting Blocked:

Certain Desktop PC security applications may disable Outlook scripting
which is required for ActiveSync too set up communications with Outlook to
synchronize data.

Please ensure that script blocking for Outlook is not enabled to work
around this issue. Please consult your PC security application documentation
on how to disable script blocking for Microsoft Outlook.

Hi Peter,

You will need to check with your PC Security application. I am not certain
about the application that is causing the problem in your case. But in my
case I have noticed that Norton Anti-virus had a Script Blocking feature.

Below is my wcesmgr.log file from my unsuccessful sync attempt. Can anyone
tell from this log what my problem is? See first metion of "error" in "Error
Partner" on the 6th line up from the bottom. Note I didn't tick all the
Outlook item options in ActiveSync dialogue box. I just ticked one or two of
them.
